Bobby's Reflections: This is a command from our Lord to the twelve apostles, to take nothing for the journey not even food, a bag, or money. But did our Lord mean for this to apply to us today? My initial thoughts are of course not. But here the twelve are sent out with the authority of Christ to go and give witness to what He has done in their life and not to worry about what "stuff" to bring. As I reflect more on this passage, I see the Lord telling me that my strength does not come from what "stuff" I bring or have, but rather from Him alone who is in me. As St. Paul said, "It is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in me" (Gal 2:20). Sometimes I feel that Christianity has become more concerned with sharing "stuff" about Jesus than Jesus Himself. Let us be challenged today in the same way the twelve were, taking nothing for our journey but Christ alone who lives in us.
Faith Challenge: The Lord commands us to take nothing along, so that we may trust completely in Him who will provide for all our needs. What things in our life are distracting us from responding to His command?
