Mark 10:21 (God's Chisel)

Let's welcome God today with this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (archive), anchored by Living Faith. Prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers. James 1:22

Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, "...Go, sell what you have, and give to [the] poor..." Mark 10:21 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "How could we sell all and give to the poor and follow Jesus? The rich man is crushed and goes away sad. Jesus looks on us with love. Faced with weakness and need, we turn away too soon. We hear only about the loss, but not about the promise. Jesus promises treasure. Our lives are not empty in His presence. We are not alone. On the path beyond fear and holding tight to things, our load strangely lightens." by Jeanne Schuler

Pat nuggets: I received a message yesterday from a friend whose wife passed away a few years ago. He concluded, "I am still alone, I guess I will remain that way." In my response, I thanked him for his friendship and reminded him that In Christ we are never alone. Just moments after sending, I began writing today's devotion and was of course taken by the Living Faith snippet, "We are not alone." Coincidence? I think not! These God Sightings are grace (strength) for our journey.

Mark 3:9-10 (Jesus: In Demand)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd...He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. Mark 3:9-10

Living Faith snippets: "In this scene, Jesus is overbooked and likely tired. There is no wave of his hand sending the crowd home nor offering a blanket miracle cure. He doesn't stop until all experience the joy of his presence. How blessed we are that Jesus always has time for an appointment with us." by Julia DiSalvo

Rich's comments: Today's Gospel was portrayed in one of the scenes of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. I remember watching thousands of diseased people moaning from their ailments and reaching out towards Jesus, smothering Him. The crowd was too overwhelming for Him and I always wondered why He didn't just cure them all at once with one "blanket miracle cure." I believe it is because the blanket cure would be too impersonal. Jesus Christ desires to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us. Jesus is in high demand, but He can make time for us. Can we do the same for Him?

* Let's never forget the horrific reality of abortion (click here for images).
* Let's pray for courage to communicate the ProLife message through Christ to those around us (John 14:6)...rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16).

* NEW: "Today marks the 36th anniversary of the brutal and unjust Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that imposed abortion on all 50 American states." David Bereit, 40 Days for Life

Our Prayers: Prayer to End Abortion, chastity, our enemies, our troops, natural disasters, depression/ despair, prisoners, ProLife politicians, loss of loved ones, lack of faith, illnesses/injuries, Mike Castle (eye infection), Peace in the Middle East (Iraq, Gaza), Lynn McAleece Bishara (Aunt Mary battling cancer), Papa Joe Castle (brain bleed resolution), Lutz Ettrich (girlfriend's Dad had stroke), Jason Peters (health of son JP), Joe Levisky (pancreatitis), Maureen Morgan (reconciliation for Sue Peterson and son), Rob Ouellette (Libby, Juel, Fr. * Defend the unborn: 'Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die' (Prov 24:11). 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you' (Jer 1:5). 'It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might lie as you wish' Blessed Mother Teresa.

Psalm 91:11 (guardian angels)

* Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17
For to his angels he has given command about you, that they guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11

Living Faith snippets: "I confess that I don't think very much about my guardian angel at all. But since angels are messengers, they must carry a message to us about God's loving care, and about how we can respond to that care. I am sure that I would make more good decisions if I more often asked for help, help in getting the message as well as acting on it." by Mark Neilsen

Rich's comments: "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father." (Matt 18:10) The role of guardian angels is said to represent us before God, to watch over us always, to aid in our prayer, and to present our souls to God at death. Sometimes it may be difficult to believe that a guardian angel is constantly watching over us; however, it is not difficult to believe that God loves us. If anything, the belief in guardian angels is an expression of our faith in God's enduring love for us. Thank you Lord for watching over me. Amen.

Feast Day (The Guardian Angels): God created the angels to praise Him in Heaven, to lead the fight against Satan and to guide and protect us. Some of these angels are the Guardian Angels, they guard us against evil, and as God's messengers, tell us what God wants us to do.

Matthew 13:10-11 (God's always present)

* Welcome God every morning before work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

The disciples approached Jesus and said, "Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?" He said to them in reply, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven have been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted." Matthew 13:10-11

Living Faith snippets: "Through our experiences, [God] guided us to where we are today and gave each of us personal parables to share--stories about the familiar that teach lessons about God. May we recognize God's presence in our life experiences, so we may see and understand." by Carol Ann Soisson

Rich's comments: Although we should not continually focus on the past, it is important to spend quiet time reflecting on past events. Without spending time to reflect, we might miss seeing where God has touched our lives. Reflection is like a photomosaic. If you are too close, you only see a bunch of random photos that do not make sense together. However, if you step back and take a God-like perspective of the photomosaic, you can see the true image that all of the small pictures collectively make. Lord, at times it seems that I do not understand why things happen in my life, but please help me to see what You see. Amen.

Hosea 10:8 (false gods, our lives matter, holiness)

* Welcome God every morning before work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com).

The high places of Aven shall be destroyed... Then they shall cry out to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall upon us!" Hosea 10:8

Living Faith snippets: "This passage was written to admonish the people of Israel who worshipped false gods. It warns those who turn their backs on the one true God. These images are very real to me. As an archaeology student in college, I tromped around in the ruins of many an ancient city, cities that had literally turned to dust. Rather than despair that we are finite, I find great peace in believing that we will return to God. If not for God, my life would feel empty and pointless. My life matters." by Karla Manternach
Pat nuggets: Let's routinely reflect on the potential or reality of something having more importance than God in our lives (a false god, golden calf) and then pray about how we should prevent/fix this. This is part of our process of growing closer to God..."an unfolding of holiness" (see quote below).

Our Prayers: Abortion, our enemies/our troops, natural disasters, depression/despair, prisoners, Vicki Miller (cancer treatment), Joe Castle (11 yr old Devantae paralyzed), Kay Castle (cancer treatment for Ms. Nancy Wheeler).

Faith quote: "Do you leave space to hear God's whisper, calling you forth into goodness? Friends, do not be afraid of silence or stillness. Listen to God. Let His word shape your journey as an unfolding of holiness." by Pope Benedict (Apr 2008 visit to USA)

Mark 8:35 (eternal life, not alone)

* Welcome God every morning before work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com).

Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it. Mark 8:35

Living Faith snippets: "We were made to be like God, and we are seemingly happiest when doing good for others. A lifetime of caring for those in need is a blessing that can be ours if we are willing to model Christ in our everyday lives." by Fr. James Stephen Behrens

Sr. Francelle snippets: "Dearest Ones, it is normal to be lonely and it's nothing to be ashamed of - Jesus was lonely, too, because he was fully human. The night before his death, He asked three good friends to accompany Him as He faced His agony because He didn't want to face it alone. His loneliness on the cross can only be imagined - nearly everyone rejected Him in His last hours. We will probably never experience such loneliness as that. The Bible has many quotes where God asks us just to listen. "Be still and know that I am God." I must give Jesus a chance to talk in my prayer time. Jesus said, "My sheep know My voice; they hear when I call." Despite all the false teachings in the world, the Lord still speaks directly to the hearts of those willing to hear. "And Peter went upon the housetop to pray, and there came a voice to him." (Acts 10:9) Paul "fell to the earth and heard that voice." Till we meet in heaven, Sister Francelle" See the entire devotion at sisterfrancelle.blogspot.com.

Our Prayers:
* Praise prayer from Pam McGushin: "The genuine love and concern I have felt through [LIFE group] prayers and individual emails to me has been overwhelming. After my [prayer] request, we almost immediately began to see a change in [her Mom's depression]. Once she was a bit more stable, I shared with her what I had done and some of the responses I received. There is no way anyone could doubt her "recovery" is anything short of heaven-sent. I know in my heart He heard the prayers of so many and responded with such power and love for her. I am happy to say that today, as her and my dad celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary, she is almost completely back to her "old" self. As we were together for dinner tonight, I could also see a strength in their marriage that was not there before. Who would have thought this ordeal would bring about such an abundance of positive change? How truly blessed we are to have the favor of the Lord and the love of so many!"

Faith Quote: Jean Noon sent this one..."To move forward in faith, your God image must periodically fall apart. Your self-image must periodically fall apart as well. If you are willing to let go of both of them, you will really grow." Fr. Richard Rohr
* If you come across an inspiring faith quote, please send to me for sharing in the devotion.

Wed, 12 Mar (Daniel 3:15)

* Welcome God every morning by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion, which has snippets from the Living Faith devotional (www.livingfaith.com). Please consider sharing a comment at life-devotions.blogspot.com.

You shall be instantly cast into the white-hot furnace. Daniel 3:15

Living Faith snippets: "While I try to discern what God is calling me, personally, to do with this, I am encouraged by another image: a fourth figure "like a son of God" who walks with the three in the midst of the white-hot flames. None of us are in this alone." by Anne Bingham

Pat's Nuggets:
* COUGARS daily: Chad Livingston said, "Hey friends, If you happen to check out our side blog, you'll notice that the format is very much the same. I was encouraged by Pat and Rich's distro [LIFE Group] and thus started COUGARS daily (cougarsdaily.blogspot.com)." Chad's devotion is based on the "A Slice of Infinity" devotion at www.rzim.org/slice/slicetran.php?sliceid=1633. Here are a few snippets from yesterday's "A Slice of Infinity" that tie in nicely with the "Living Faith" snippet today that "none of us are in this alone": "For some reason, we think that because Jesus is in the boat with us, suffering will not come our way. But suffering does come, and the wind roars around us and the sky turns black. Jesus, don’t you care that we are perishing becomes an incredulous statement because we think as Christians we are somehow immune from the troubles of life. But Jesus’s answer reminds us that faith does not insulate us from life’s storms [“Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”]. Indeed, as Craig Barnes has written “Faith has everything to do with seeing that we have the Savior on board.""

* Prayer: Joel Cain shared this quote: "“Prayer at its holiest moment is the entering into God to a place of such blessed union as makes miracles seem tame and remarkable answers to prayer appear something very far short of wonderful by comparison.” – A. W. Tozer

Third Station (Jesus Falls the First Time): "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because, by your holy cross, You have redeemed the world. Jesus falls under the awful weight of the cross. He has just begun the journey, and Golgotha is still so far away. He is weak from the blows He has received, and the soldiers continue to strike Him and insult Him. They force Him up quickly so that He will not experience any relief or any opportunity to lie in the dirt to rest for a moment. The crowd insults Him and enjoys the spectacle unfolding before them. Finally, Jesus gets up and continues on His way, because His work is not yet finished. Forgive me, Lord, I beg you! Restore me with your holy and purifying grace. Help me to be more like you, so that I, too, may rise up and continue on my way. [Amen]" from "Behold! The Way of the Cross" by Thomas Gouin

Tues, 11 Mar (Psalm 102:19)

* Welcome God every morning by taking ~ 5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion, which has snippets from the Living Faith devotion (http://www.livingfaith.com/). Please consider sharing your gift of faith by adding a comment at life-devotions.blogspot.com.

Let this be written for the generation to come, and let his future creatures praise the Lord. Psalm 102:19

Living Faith snippets: "The great advantage of a biblical text is that it endures across the generations, but every age still has to make sense of it for themselves. That is just another way of saying that every age has to encounter the person of Jesus; the mere fact that some people once believed in Him will not be enough." by Mark Neilsen
Pat's Nuggets: Chad Livingston recently started a morning devotion called COUGARS for "Christ Our lord Using us, Guiding us, Armoring us and Encouraging us as we develop REAL relationships – Saints!" (http://gougars.blogspot.com/). Richard Livingston (Chad's Dad) commented to Chad's post yesterday with a quote that relates to today's Living Faith snippets: "If you are not hearing from God, you are not spending enough time in the scriptures."

Stations of the Cross: from "Behold! The Way of the Cross" by Thomas Gouin
* Second Station (Jesus Accepts His Cross.): "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because, by your holy cross, You have redeemed the world. The cross is a large and heavy one, not simply because of its physical composition, but because all of our sins are attached to it. Every heartache and pain, every injustice and illness, every oppression and poverty, every human misery is attached to this cross. When He is nailed to the wood of the cross that will be transformed into the tree of life for all who believe, the Lord will destroy the lasting effects of sin and death. My Lord, help me to repent from my sinful ways, and to accept your forgiveness, for no sin is too great for your loving mercy. Help me to show similar courage in accepting my own crosses so that through my hardships, I may experience your saving power and divine assistance." Amen.

Sr. Francelle devotion snippets: "Dearest Ones, during Lent, the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary have special meaning for me. Just as I ask family and friends to pray for me, through the rosary I ask Mary, the angels, saints and souls in Purgatory to pray the rosary with me. To better understand what Jesus is going through, I picture myself near Him during His sorrow, which often brings tears to my eyes. If you are suffering at this minute, please ask Jesus for strength just for today. No matter how bad things look or how devastated you may feel, you are not alone. God is with you, even if you're not aware of his presence. Brighten someone's day! Give yourself away! I Love you, Sister Francelle"
