Isaiah 56:1 (The Checklist of our hearts)

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB). Guest Authors schedule. LIFE Minute radio.

"Thus says the LORD: Observe what is right, do what is just; for my salvation is about to come, my justice, about to be revealed." ~ Isaiah 56:1 (full readings)

Rosemary's Reflections: As I wrap up my first semester of grad school, I've been counting down the days until I get to come home for the holidays and spend quality time with loved ones. Before I can do that, there's a to-do list I must go through: make flight plans, pack my suitcases, clean my fridge, the list goes on and on. Though tedious, I know these tasks must be done in order for me to truly enjoy my time with family and friends. This is similar to what the season of Advent does for us--we must prepare our hearts for the birth of our Savior. We must clean out the inn of our hearts to make room for Him. One way to do that is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which helps clean us of the stains sin leaves. If we also "observe what is right" and "do what is just," we can be ready to accept God's salvation for us in the form of a small child born in a stable.

Faith Challenge: As we rush around to decorate our homes, bake cookies, and finish (or start) Christmas shopping, set aside some time to pray and reflect on the real reason of Christmas. There's a reason why Christ is in the word Christmas.

Sr. Francelle's Devotion: Christmas

Counter-Culture News: LSN, LifeNews, Priests for Life, Vatican, Project Rachel.

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion. LIFE Runners Creed. Add Prayers. Pray with meals, bedtime, wake up, etc. Consider mid-week Family Rosary (17 min). Let’s pray now.

Feast Day:
Blessed Honoratus Kozminski

Faith Quote: "It is very helpful to confess with a certain regularity. It is true our sins are always the same; but we clean our homes, our rooms, at least once a week even if the dirt is always the same, in order to live in cleanliness, in order to start again. Otherwise, the dirt might not be seen, but it builds up." ~ Pope Benedict XVI

Through Christ Our Lord,
Rosemary

Matthew 11:11 (Circle of Blessing) by Jean

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (website, Facebook).

"…there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Matthew 11:11 (full readings)

Jean's Reflections: In the circle of blessing and reconciliation which God initiates, John baptized with water those who were willing to acknowledge their own darkness. So often, though, repentance and wanting forgiveness from God is not accompanied by wanting to do God’s will, or having inner freedom to do God’s will -- to love neighbor. The Pharisees “did the right thing” in all the externals – often out of duty rather than love – and showed that their hearts had not been transformed. They neglected the greater part of the law: mercy for those in darkness. They were unwilling to bear another’s burdens as God who daily bears our burdens for us. The kingdom of heaven comes to fulfillment through Jesus Christ who baptizes by fire and the Holy Spirit, who gives freedom from “having to” follow the law as slaves so that we have freedom for “wanting to” follow the law as lovers. Jesus’ mission is to bring good news, that is, forgiveness, mercy, and compassion to those who walk in darkness so that they, too, may participate in the circle of blessing and offer forgiveness, mercy, and compassion to their neighbors who are sinners all. Until I see myself as one who walks in darkness and has received liberation and forgiveness from God I will have a difficult time sharing in his mission with my whole heart. Mercy and forgiveness of those who have trespassed against me is my way of showing that God’s mercy and forgiveness of me has changed my heart. When I witness myself bringing good news to the poor, the captive, the blind, the stranger, the sick, and the prisoner, I recognize that I have stepped into the circle of mercy sharing in the life of God. When all men are willing to acknowledge their own darkness and, through their changed hearts, forgive their enemies the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb…there shall be no harm or ruin…and the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the lord (from last Sunday’s first reading).

Faith Challenge: Be aware of whether the choices I make from my “gut” or emotions are in line with God’s will that I love my neighbor as God does.

Counter-Culture News: LSN, Vatican, AFA, Priests for Life, Live Action

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion, Alpha Center, Peters family (JP). View, add, update Prayers on our website. Let’s pray now.

Feast Day: St. Juan Diego "Similar to ancient biblical personages who were collective representations of all the people, we could say that Juan Diego represents all the indigenous peoples who accepted the Gospel of Jesus, thanks to the maternal aid of Mary, who is always inseparable from the manifestation of her Son and the spread of the Church, as was her presence among the Apostles on the day of Pentecost” (Pope John Paul II, beatification homily).

Faith Quote: "Don't lose any opportunity, however small, of being gentle toward everyone. Don't rely on your own efforts to succeed in your various undertakings, but only God's help. Then rest in God's care of you, confident that God will do what is best for you, provided that you, for your part, work diligently but gently. I say 'gently' because a tense diligence is harmful both to our heart and to our task and is not really diligence, but rather over eagerness and anxiety.... I recommend you to God's mercy. I beg God, through that same mercy, to fill you with God's love." ~ St Francis de Sales

Gal 5:19-23 ("what side are you on?")

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (archive, Facebook).
.
.
The works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Gal 5:19-23 (full readings)

Pat's Reflections: In standing against the Silent Holocaust (abortion), we resist the "works of the flesh" and embrace the "fruit of the Spirit." Abortion survivor Gianna Jessen could have naturally taken the works of the flesh, but instead she chose God, receiving the supernatural fruit of the Spirit. Gianna gave a beautifully courageous 16 min speech at the Parliament House in Australia (part 1, part 2). When Gianna said, "We are in a battle between Life and death. What side are you on?", my daughter Grace (7) whispered in my ear, "Life." After Joe Hourigan saw Gianna speak in Colorado Springs earlier this year, he shared, "Gianna was born after being burned for 18 hours in her mother's womb, by a saline abortion attempt. Her birth mother was 17 years old and over 7 months pregnant. Gianna's birth certificate says "born during saline abortion." She was born with cerebral palsy and considers it a gift from God. She has run 2 marathons [LIFE Runner!]. Gianna allows the love of Jesus Christ to shine forth for all the world to see. She has a powerful message to share, because she is alive, like God intended. You and I have a message to share as well. Be not afraid. Go forth, and spread the gospel of love [Life]."

Faith Challenge: Pray for Mom's (and Dad's) considering an abortion...and Mom's (and Dad's) who had an abortion (reconciliation, healing). There is hope after abortion.

Counter-Culture News: 40 Days for Life (ends 31 Oct), LSN, Vatican, AFA, Priests for Life, Live Action.

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion. Peters family (JP), Rich Reich (cousin Tom cancer), Leslee Unruh (grandbaby Pierce recovering from brain surgery).

1 Cor 13:2 (Alpha Center'd in Love!)

Welcome God today with this LIFE Group Devotion (archive, Facebook).

If I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 1 Cor 13:2 (full readings)

Pat nuggets:
* Today's verse reminds us to do everything out of love for God and neighbor. Jesus, Others, You (JOY)!
* Steve's Friday devotion was in God's perfect timing. Yes, the "run so as to win" verse (1 Cor 9:24) came from Friday's daily Mass readings (as usual)...just in time for the LIFE Runners weekend. Coincidence?, I think not! On top of that, Leslee Unruh (Alpha Center founder) read the devotion to 1,200 pregnancy center leaders at Care Net's national meeting in Dallas that Friday. Leslee's daughter (Kia Rector) is a LIFE Runner who placed 3rd overall for women and donated her $400 winnings to the Alpha Center. Thanks to our sponsors (>100), the LIFE Runners raised over $6,000 for the Alpha Center crisis pregnancy bus (provides free ultrasounds)...interesting to note that "MARATHON COACH" is written on the side of the bus. Over 80% of Mothers who see their Unborn Child's ultrasound...don't abort!
* Today's picture was taken at the Sioux Falls Alpha Center "Memorial for the Unborn" (sacred ground). I imagine many reconciled parents have departed the Alpha Center singing this song: Born Again. Thank you Leslee, Kimberly and all Alpha Center staff for so evidently loving God and neighbor in your mission to save babies (and parents)! The LIFE Runners will courageously raise funds/awareness for the Alpha Center again, during the 18 weeks of training for the 2011 Kansas City Half/Full Marathon (Oct 15). Want to join the 2011 LIFE Runners team?

Faith Challenge: Volunteer to help at your local crisis pregnancy center during the 40 Days for Life (starts Sep 22)...out of love for God and neighbor!

Counter-Culture News: LSN, Vatican, AFA, Priests for Life.
* Running for JP: JP truly inspired the 2010 LIFE Runners training/fundraising. The team was blessed by the faith/endurance of JP, his parents Jason/Deanna and his grandparents Sue/Bill...thank you!

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion. Peters family (JP), Rich Reich (cousin Tom cancer, Pastor Pat Coy heart recovery, Uncle Javier's health)
* Lynn Bishara (Aunt Marilyn passed away), Carolyn McKissack (for Karen, Bailee and Anna Grace), Vicki Kerkvliet (Mom started radiation treatment for lung cancer), Karen Ryan-Philpott (2 wk old Baby William, heart issues)

Feast Day: Our Lady of Sorrows. Mary stood faithfully at the foot of the cross as her innocent son Jesus suffered and died for our salvation. Blessings for all those who do this for the innocent Unborn dying at local abortion mills.

Faith Quote: "We don't change the message, the message changes us!"

Matthew 5:23-24 (Reconciliation)

Welcome God today with this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (archive). Prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers. James 1:22

Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 (full readings)

Rich's comments: Max Lucado wrote in his book, When God Whispers Your Name, in reference to today's highlighted scripture: "As far as I know, this is the only time God tells you to slip out of church early. Apparently, he’d rather have you give your olive branch than your tithe. If you are worshiping and remember that your mom is hacked-off at you for forgetting her birthday, then get off the pew and find a phone. Maybe she’ll forgive you; maybe she won’t. But at least you can return to your pew with a clean conscience." My faith has taught me that reconciliation is critical to my relationship with Christ. While the Pharisees were concerned about washing their hands before eating a meal (Matthew 15:2), Jesus was more concerned about a clean heart, "for from the heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy." (Matthew 15:19) Lord, may I offer myself as a gift to You at Your altar as a living sacrifice with clean heart and love towards my fellow brothers and sisters. Amen.

John 8:12 ("God cleans His fish...")

Let's welcome God today with this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (archive, Facebook), based on Living Faith. Prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers. James 1:22

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of Life. John 8:12 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "I have had many times in my life in which I have hit darkness and panicked a little. That was, I think, because I thought I was driving with my lights on, but I actually wasn't. I thought I was living with Jesus as my light, but in reality, I was listening to Him as just one of the many possibly helpful voices, rather than The Voice, the Word of God, shedding light, illuminating my journey. Jesus, you are my light. Lead me out of darkness." by Amy Welborn

Pat nuggets:
* Fr. Chris took me fishing last week. I received the Sacrament of Reconciliation with him on the drive back home...the mobile Sacrament was a first for both of us! The fishing/confession combo reminded me of a catchy saying I heard at Promise Keepers, "God cleans His fish after He catches them!" In other words, God doesn't expect us to be perfect when we arrive at the foot of the cross. At Mass yesterday, Fr. Mark said "bring your sins, I'll take care of the rest!" The Sacrament truly facilitates Reconciliation with God...through contrition (sorry), penance (healing), counsel (prevention), and grace (strength)!
* The LIFE Runners are doing the Sioux Falls Half/Full Marathon in support of the Sioux Falls Alpha Center Fleet for Little Feet (FFLF). The FFLF is a mobile pregnancy care center (big bus). Kimberly Martinez (director) wrote, "The FFLF allows us to travel around the state and into other states to reach women with free pregnancy tests, ultrasound, STD testing, material support and the great news of Jesus Christ. Just last week the FFLF was in Sioux City, IA parked in front of Planned Parenthood on one of their abortion days." The founder of the Alpha Center, Leslee Unruh, is a courageous defender of the Unborn and part of the LIFE Group!
* Need some faith mojo? Enjoy this soulful, feel-good ditty! "Bring all your troubles, come Lay Em Down."

Faith Challenges: Let's generously share the LIFE Group by forwarding devotions or using the Facebook "invite people" link.
* NEW: Stephanie Kemp recommended the movie Molokai..."a true story about Fr. Damien, the Belgian priest who ministered to those with leprosy in Hawaii in the late 1800's." I ordered the movie yesterday. Here is a movie trailer.
* NEW: What are some of the "many possible voices" that distract us from The Voice, the Word of God? Please consider sharing your devotion thoughts on the Facebook page, to be appreciated by many.

Luke 1:66 (wise people still seek and find Him!)

Let's welcome God by reflecting on this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (website, Facebook), based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be?" For surely the hand of the Lord was with him [John the Baptist]. Luke 1:66 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Like John the Baptist, we can prepare the way for the Lord. In these days before Christmas, as we prepare food and gifts, as we send cards and letters, as we travel or open our doors in welcome, we pour out love into our struggling world. The hand of the Lord is with us." by Patricia Livingston

Pat's nuggets: Wise men and women still seek...and find Him! Like Mother Mary, may we always choose life and Jesus...through Him, with Him, in Him. May the miracle of Christ-mas fuel our hopes for 2010...
* A question from Monday's devotion nuggets: "I was wondering if you could clarify for us Protestants in the group what the Sacrament of Reconciliation is?" The Sacrament of Reconciliation is practiced by at least one Protestant denomination (Missouri Synod Lutheran)...and is rooted in John 20:21-23. Like the apostles, the priest/pastor facilitates real repentance and the receipt of God's forgiveness/grace. My cadet sponsor, who remarried after her pastor husband passed away, said this Sacrament is a great part of the Catholic faith because "it gets the junk out." Catholics also believe that forgiveness/grace are attained outside this Sacrament, but the Sacrament is a special tool/gift that helps facilitate real repentance with a genuine apology to God, valuable counsel to prevent recurrence, constructive penance for healing, and God's gift of grace for strength. If you are really interested in this Sacramental gift/process, you could ask a local priest to take you through it. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is like a spiritual Turkish bath (thorough cleansing)...great preparation for Christmas! Other questions or comments? More info here.

Matthew 4:21-22 (Advent Love Dare...)

Let's welcome God today by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (website, Facebook), based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed Him. Matthew 4:21-22 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Movie stars, supermodels and talk show hosts...these are the people we often identify as charismatic. Before this contemporary meaning, charisma meant "a divinely conferred gift or power." Jesus must have possessed a lot of charisma in both senses of the word. The apostles and many others found him so attractive that they left their homes and livelihoods to be his companion. They also observed God's loving power in Jesus' words and actions. Who would not want to be around such a person?" by David Nantais

Pat's nuggets: Happy Advent...let's prepare ourselves for the birth of Christ!
* From OBOB: "We celebrate the new Church year and Advent. Advent is similar to pregnancy, in that we carry, protect, and nurture Christ's life within us. "Be on guard lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence and drunkenness and worldly cares" (Lk 21:34). Just as a mother's smoking, drinking alcohol, or taking drugs can have bad effects on her baby, so our sinful preoccupation with "worldly cares" can damage or even abort the new life of Advent. We should begin this [Church] year by going to Confession. By repenting, we remove things which stifle the growth of God's life within us. We should also simplify our lives, freeing up more time to pray, read God's word, evangelize, and share fellowship. We should be nourished and rested. TV, videos, and compulsive activities could very well smother our new life in God. Advent, like pregnancy, is a wonderful time as long as we carefully protect and nourish the new life within us."
* Angi and me are preparing for the birth of Christ with "The Love Dare" book (from "Fireproof" movie). It has 40 dares with a few pages to set up each dare. We read it together at bed time, reflecting on the previous dare and setting up the next dare. The book is great pause/perspective for putting positive energy into marriage. We are enjoying the challenges, fruits, and laughs. Angi even double dog dared me last week! "When two people in a marriage are more concerned about getting the golden eggs (the benefits) than they are in preserving the relationship that makes them possible, they often become insensitive and inconsiderate, neglecting the little kindnesses and courtesies so important to a deep relationship. They begin to use control levers to manipulate each other, focus on their own needs, justify their own position, and look for evidence to show the wrongness of the other person. The love, the richness, the softness, and the spontaneity begin to deteriorate. The goose gets sicker day by day." author unknown

Luke 18:40-41 (teeth cleaning...)

Let's welcome God today by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which is based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He replied, "Lord, please let me see." Luke 18:40-41 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Several months ago my husband died. My prayer in the immediate wake of his death was, not surprisingly, full of questions, confusion, sadness, and even anger. I was praying the psalms that express yearning for God, for God's peace, for life with God. These were the prayers that my husband offered so faithfully for years, since he was a daily Mass-goer. He had prayed daily for the fullness of God's peace and love, and, like the blind man, for healing and wholeness. His prayers have been answered. A reason, even in the midst of sadness, to be grateful for birth...and rebirth. Jesus, please let me see." Amy Welborn

Pat's nuggets: While sitting in the dentist chair last week, I realized that teeth cleaning relates to our faith lives. If we don't brush & floss (prayer/Bible study/church/service), our teeth get plaque, stains, and decay (sin). Periodically, a dental hygienist (friend/pastor/priest) is needed to help us clean up the plaque, stains, and decay (sin) with special tools (support/counseling/ Sacrament of Reconciliation) and hold us accountable. Finally, the Great Dentist (Jesus/ Holy Spirit/ God) judges the condition of our teeth (souls). My dental experience also reminded me of the saying "cleanliness is next to Godliness." Committed effort is required to keep our teeth clean, and committed effort is required to live Godly lives. Although nothing is perfectly analogous for God's love and forgiveness, this was a constructive distraction while the dental hygienist had her fist in my mouth.

Faith Challenges: Let's all invite one person each week (John 14:6) to join our LIFE Group (~250 of God's children).
* NEW: To help us see God clearly, let's commit effort to routine prayer, Bible study, church and service (brush/floss) and get help as needed (dental hygienist).

* Let's never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images)...#1 cause of death in America. Let's courageously share ProLife Truth to create social tension for exposing abortion's unjust peace...rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16) and setting the unborn (and parents) free!

* Fasting: Let's fast from things that take our eyes off Jesus (selfishness, pornography, bitterness, criticalness, impatience, gossip, excessive video games, etc) and take on things that fix our eyes on Jesus (selflessness, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, patience, understanding, caring, helping, listening).

Psalm 32:1 ("Be like...")

Let's welcome God this morning by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which is based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Happy is he whose fault is taken away, whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "...preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time...he paced nervously back and forth awaiting his turn. What a relief to see his beaming face when he reentered the body of the church. He shared with us later that, as he poured his heart out in Confession, he felt completely embraced by a loving God. That experience also made possible a breakthrough: Knowing himself so welcomed by God opened this man's heart to love and to forgive himself as well." by Sr. Chris Koellhoffer

Pat nuggets:
* Today's devotion picture is our daughter Paige (9) praying at St. Mary's church in Alton, IL on 10 Oct. Paige asked Fr. Chris if it would be ok to pray at the tabernacle. [I met Fr. Chris the weekend prior at the St. Louis airport when I was heading to the TC Marathon (for ProLife).] Paige's role model is Blessed Mother Teresa, ever since we watched a movie about her. Paige wrote me a note that said, "Be like Mother Teresa"...I have it posted in my home office (aka man cave). Let's encourage our children to consider all vocations and to listen for God's call.
* It is perplexing that the proposed federal healthcare bill would fund abortions...completely counter to healthcare's sacred Hippocratic Oath that promises to "keep them from harm and injustice." 'It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish' (Blessed Mother Teresa).

Sr. Francelle's devotion: Family "One of the highlights was...when nephews took me down to the abortion clinic, where we prayed the rosary. They were busy, as 14 women went inside - we don't know whether they went through with the abortion or not, but we do know prayers are never wasted or unheard."

Faith Challenges:
* NEW members include Bob Ramsey, Leslee Unruh, Mariah Craycroft, Caroline Metzinger...welcome! Let's all invite one person each week (John 14:6) to join our LIFE Group (>245 of God's children).
* NEW: We received a request to send our Compassion International child a Christmas gift...which reminded me of the LIFE Group Christmas challenge from last year. To imitate the real St. Nicholas in giving gifts to the poor and children, consider rallying your extended family to pool the adult Christmas gift funds for a charity (homeless shelter, troubled teens, crisis pregnancy center, counter-culture news sources below, etc). This sacrifice also simplifies Christmas, allowing more time to experience the true meaning and joy of Christmas!

Counter-Culture News: LifeSiteNews, American Family Association, Priests for Life
* Let's never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images)...#1 cause of death in America. Let's courageously share ProLife Truth to create social tension for exposing abortion's unjust peace...rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16) and setting the unborn free!

Our Prayers: Those who pray together stay together. Fasting ideas in footnote below.
* Prayer to end abortion, abused children, chastity, peace, our enemies, our troops, depression/despair, prisoners, ProLife politicians, illnesses/injuries, jobs, natural disasters, refugees, addictions, persecuted believers, Peters family (JP in hospital), Lynn Bishara (for son Alex), Joyce Trunk (friend w/brain cancer)
* NEW: Stephanie Spader (20 wk ultrasound "looks perfect"), Kathy Castle (for the repose of the Soul of Vicki Miller...and for her husband Joe and 3 teenage children)

Feast Day: St. Gerard Majella (patron of expectant mothers)

Faith Quotes:
* Kathy Castle shared: "A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation." Psalm 68:5
* Aaron Ferrie shared: "God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." James 1:12

Psalm 87:7 (my home is within you)

Let's welcome God every morning before work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

And all shall sing, in their festive dance: "My home is within you." Psalm 87:7

Living Faith snippets: "It is one thing for me to say I feel at home in the Father. It is quite another to realize that the Father finds a home in me! Living the implications of that statement will get me through anything today. And should something loom its ugly head at me, making me feel out of sorts or less of a person than I am, may I remember that I am home for God." by Sr. Charleen Hug, S.N.D.

Rich's comments: Today's Living Faith devotion reminded me of the feeling that I had after attending confession for the first time after 20 years. After confessing my sins to Christ alive in the priest, Jesus absolved my sins, and spoke through the priest, "welcome home!" The floodgates of grace were opened in my heart, my soul was filled with a deep peace, and I experienced an inexplicable lightness and sense of liberation. I was at home. I felt that I could finally be myself to Jesus and let Him reside in my heart without feeling guilty that I needed to hide a part of myself from Him. Even if you do not believe in confessing your sins to a priest or anyone else, but God directly, I understand. I felt the same way for 20 years, and only confessed my sins directly to God in prayer. I believe that we do not experience God's forgiving grace in our hearts until we truly feel sorry for our sins, and this feeling is easily expressed when sharing our sins with others. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed." James 5:16

Faith Challenge: Let's challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News.
* If Christ was visiting our house today, would He feel at home? Or would you have to tell Him to please wait a moment at the door as you hid the things in your life that were not of God. Let's do some housecleaning and make Jesus feel at home in our hearts.

Counter-Culture News: LifeSiteNews, American Family Association, Priests for Life

Listen to what my adversaries say. Jeremiah 18:19 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "If I were to recall the unkind things I have said about other people, well it would make quite a list. What might a person do with such a list? Repentance comes to mind." by Kevin Perrotta

Faith Challenge: Let's challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News. Suggestions?

Faith Quote: “The paradox is that happiness is truly found only when it is routinely denied. In my practice, the happiest girls are always the one who live with humility. The unhappiest girls are the ones who are most self-indulgent in their pursuit of happiness. Humility teaches us that we're part of a larger community and need to work together for the good of the whole. Humility teaches responsibility, and it teaches us to consider the needs of others...it reminds us that we aren't the only ones who count. The result is that girls with humility experience the real joy and happiness that comes only from strong, healthy relationships." Meg Meeker, M.D. (author of "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters")

Isaiah 1:18 (path toward reconciliation)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow. Isaiah 1:18

Living Faith snippets: "In preparation [for Reconciliation], I ask Jesus: "Tell me what in me most jeopardizes our relationship?" I never get the same answer. It is always an unexpected and often uncomfortable revelation of a part of my life God wants to heal. It is God's revelation and activity that helps me bring into the light areas of my life that he wants to make white as snow." by Sr. Kathryn James Hermes, F.S.P.

Rich's comments: Erica had a guest speaker at a teacher in-service last Friday who told the following story: Chapter 1 - I walked down a street and fell into a hole. It wasn't my fault, but I couldn't get out of it. After a lot of struggle, I finally worked my way out of the hole. Chapter 2 - I walked down a street and fell into a hole. It wasn't my fault, but I couldn't get out of it. I prayed to God to help me get out of the hole. God responded and pulled me out of the hole. Chapter 3 - I walked down a street and there was a hole. I walked around the hole. Chapter 4 - I walked down a different street. Lord, may we have the courage and self-evaluation to acknowledge our sins, for You are faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. [1 John 1:9] Amen.

Faith Challenge: Let's challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News. Suggestions?

Luke 11:30 (love our enemies)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. Luke 11:30

Living Faith snippets: "The Book of Jonah is a parable telling us to forgive our enemies. The Ninevites were the enemies of Israel, but they were not God's enemies. They were God's children and enjoyed the tender love and mercy of their creator. Therefore, God did not destroy the Ninevites, as Jonah had desired, but forgave them. Lord, help us eliminate our enemies through forgiveness and love." by Fr. James McKarns

Life Group nuggets:
* Angi Castle: "Whatever you did for one of these...you did for me." [Yesterday's devotion verse] is very fitting as I just said it to the girls on Sunday after we gave a man a McDonald's gift card. He was standing at the exit holding a sign saying "out of work with 3 kids to feed." He said, "God bless you thank you so much." I then blessed him back.
