Philippians 3:17 ("Give it all away")

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (archive, Facebook).

Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. Philippians 3:17 (full readings)

Steve's Reflections:
* I was visiting last night over dinner with my pastor about the culture war we find ourselves in today. He said, "Death is God's mercy on a sinner. In death there is no more sin." Death has become something evil in our culture; something to be put off and avoided at all costs. As a Christian, I'm looking forward to going Home someday. Amidst all this cultural noise we forget that Jesus our King suffered greatly before dieing on a cross - should we expect any different? The most beautiful thing we can gaze upon is the picture of a man in death, having poured his life out for us, hanging lifeless upon a cross. The cross is love personified. It is the most perfect expression of God's love for us - that He would send His only begotten son to let evil men do THAT to Him (John 3:16). While on retreat a few weeks back, a young man looked at my crucifix and said, "I love your cross, but why is Jesus still on it? He rose from the dead." I smiled softly and said, "Yes, and he lives in my heart, but I never want to forget the greatest act of love in human history." Paul reminds us that we are to be imitators of Him; Paul who is writing from a prison; Paul who was beaten; Paul who eventually sealed the Truth with his own blood and was beheaded in Rome; Paul who gave it all away.
* Listen to this great song by Aaron Shust, Give it all away: "All of my plans, all of my dreams, I lay them down before your feet. All of time, all that was mine, I now submit to your design."

Faith Challenge: Be imitators of Christ - give it all away!

Sr. Francelle's Devotion: We All Have a Heart Condition.

Counter-Culture News: LSN, Vatican, AFA, Priests for Life, Live Action.
* Michael O'Brien: Reading Potter, Twilight, Pullman Series - "We become what we eat": "We generally tend to think of faith as a certain compartment of life, culture is another compartment. Almost all of us have been habituated into taking a dose of poison with our cultural diet, Thinking, well, we're baptized, we pray, we're good people, we wouldn't ever do those things that we are entertained by. But we become what we eat. That's a major area where we are being deceived."

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion, Alpha Center, Peters family (JP), Rich Reich (cousin Tom cancer), Carolyn McKissack (daughter Karen's health), Kathy Schwab (5 yr old Dalton cancer)
* KJB (Sue Morris improved health), Carol Nesbitt (for great niece Allison with pneumonia), Jamie Simpson (special intention)

Feast Day: Venerable Solanus Casey (1957). At the funeral Mass, Father Gerald, the provincial, said: "His was a life of service and love for people like me and you. When he was not himself sick, he nevertheless suffered with and for you that were sick. When he was not physically hungry, he hungered with people like you. He had a divine love for people. He loved people for what he could do for them —and for God, through them."

Faith Quote: "God could have established his Church under supervision of angels that have no faults or weaknesses. But who can doubt that as it stands today, consisting of and under the supervision of poor sinners—successors to the ‘poor fishermen of Galilee’; the Church is a more outstanding miracle than any other way?" Venerable Solanus Casey

Matthew 18:33 (Forgiveness)

Welcome God today with this LIFE Group Devotion (archive, Facebook).

Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you? Matthew 18:33 (full readings)

Rich's thoughts: We can only obtain the forgiveness of sins which God offers us if we receive it with the right attitude. Jesus advocates the prayer, Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (Mt 6:12) Today's selected scripture comes from the parable of the unforgiving servant. The wicked servant in the parable represents the nominal Christian who though he begs forgiveness from God doesn't have an "application oriented faith" and so ultimately is not saved. Though the servant may have seemed sincere, his behavior appears that he considered his debt and the master's forgiveness to be trivial. Lord, I owe my life to you. May my actions reflect my faith in You. Amen.

Faith Challenge: If you find it difficult to forgive others, first reflect on the depth of your own sinfulness against God and how He has forgiven you.

Sr. Francelle's devotion: Pray always. Pray without ceasing.

Counter-Culture News: LSN, Vatican, AFA, Priests for Life.

Our Prayers: Prayer to end abortion. Peters family (JP, special intention), Rich Reich (Cousin Tom's battle vs. cancer).

Feast Day of St. Jane Frances de Chantal. Learn how St. Jane forgave the man who killed her husband.

Faith Quote: "The secret of happiness is in losing, that we should throw ourselves into God as a little drop of water into the sea, and lose ourselves indeed in the Ocean of the divine goodness." - St. Jane Frances de Chantal

Rich

John 3:8 ("wind and Spirit")

Let's welcome God today with this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (archive, Facebook), based on Living Faith. Prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers. James 1:22

The wind blows where it wills...; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. John 3:8 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "The Greek word "pneuma" means both "wind" and "spirit." John, no doubt, was using this double meaning." by Heather Wilson

Pat nuggets:
* Angi and me ran the St. Louis marathon yesterday, and the wind (Spirit) certainly blew in our favor. I just made it under 3 hrs (2:59:41) because of inspiration from two unique experiences. At mile 6, I was sprinkled with holy water by a joy-filled priest. He was off to the side, blessing those who ran over to him. During mile 22, I was fading and started to figure I wouldn't break 3 hours. At mile 23, I passed by the giant Planned Parenthood abortuary and took on extra suffering (picked up the pace) as a prayer for the unborn (and their parents). Angi ran the entire race with our neighbor...to help our neighbor finish her first marathon. Angi ran her best time...in giving we do receive. In 3 weeks I will pace my friend Fr. Jonathan for the Pittsburgh Marathon. He introduced me to his term for one of our faith practices...“redemptive running”, which is praying for others in the midst of running challenges. Our marathon will be a mini-retreat...may the wind be at our backs!
* As yesterday was Divine Mercy Sunday, Stephanie Kemp shared the following (paraphrased from Bishop Sheridan, Colorado Springs). "The greatest attribute of God is His Mercy, and we should never despair of it. Also, our secular culture teaches that everything is permitted and nothing needs forgiveness." Let's thank God for His Mercy!

Faith Challenge: Let's generously share the LIFE Group by forwarding devotions or using the Facebook "invite people" link.
* NEW: Today's image is the St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. How can we treat our homes like a Cathedral (see Faith Quote below)? Consider sharing your devotion thoughts on the Facebook page, to be appreciated by many.

Counter-Culture News: LifeSiteNews, Vatican, American Family Association, Priests for Life
* Never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images), #1 cause of death in America (23% of pregnancies)...courageously share ProLife Truth to expose abortion's unjust peace, rebuilding a Culture of Life for setting the unborn (and parents) free.

Our Prayers: Those who pray together stay together, and close to God (footnotes). Peters family (JP), Prayer to end abortion, Stephanie Kemp (special intention), Helene Couchon (healing)
* NEW: Joe Levisky, "I want to thank all of you who included my daughter's difficult pregnancy in their prayers. She successfully (cesarean section) delivered Lily. Unfortunately, Lily has severe problems, and my daughter is experiencing severe post-partum depression. With the power of prayer we brought her through once, so I'm asking you to include my daughter and Lily in your prayers to get them through."
* NEW: Christy Hubka (Fr. Mel Thompsen's health), Brenda Alvine (God's protection for her family)
-
Faith Quote: Last night, we went to Mass at the Cathedral in Belleville, IL. This quote was on the bulletin cover. "You enter this Cathedral...not as a stranger, but as a quest of God. Come, then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips. Be grateful for the strong and faithful ones who built this place of worship, and to all who have beautified and hallowed it by their prayer and praise. Offer your prayers and thanks here...adore Christ's Real Presence...honor the saints. Rejoice in the power of the Holy Spirit, that the Lord's blessing may rest on you, on both your coming in and your going out."

Through Christ our Lord,
Pat

* Prayer: Prayer connects us with God's will & His miracles, changing us & helping others. 'If you pray that God will move a mountain and He doesn't, assume Christ wants you to climb it instead.
* Fasting: Let's fast from things that take our eyes off Jesus (selfishness, pornography, bitterness, criticalness, impatience, gossip, excessive video games, etc) and take on things that fix our eyes on Jesus (selflessness, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, patience, understanding, caring, helping, listening).
* Defend the unborn: 'Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don't stand back and let them die' (Prov 24:11). 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you' (Jer 1:5). 'It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish' (Blessed Mother Teresa).
* Evangelization: Let's make room for unbelievers (be a friend, make a friend, lead a friend to Christ) and perpetual re-evangelization of self and those near us, by way of daily prayer (relationship) and following Christ's example of selfless love, mercy, and service (Matt 28:19).

Psalm 147:12 ("WE ARE ALL WITNESSES")

Let's welcome God today by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which is based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Glorify the Lord... Psalm 147:12 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "We may look to the beauty of the sky or the smile of a baby to measure His greatness. But it is important to remember that He is [also] in life's in-between moments...those moments sandwiched between the glorious heights, when we do our best to return what was lost. It could be an apology to one we may have hurt or a simple letter of thanks for a kindness received and long taken for granted." by Fr. James Behrens

Pat's nuggets:
* In today's picture (Nike poster), basketball star LeBron James is portrayed looking up to the sky with his arms out...the caption states "WE ARE ALL WITNESSES." Witnesses to what? If this was a poster of you or me, what would others be witnessing? What do we want them to be witnessing? Following today's Bible verse, as Christians, we want others to witness us glorifying the Lord! My daughter Paige (9) looked at the LeBron poster and genuinely said, "Dad, is that you?" Ha! Children do indeed look up to their parents...may they witness us as the "domestic church" (yesterday's faith quote), building the Kingdom of God here and now. "We are all witnesses" to God's glory!

* For an Air Force class, we are studying about noble efforts to use nonlethal weapons for reducing loss of life. After 3 airmen recently died in motor vehicle accidents, the base was briefed on driving safety to help prevent loss of life. Yet our taxpayer dollars also contribute to the killing of almost 4,000 children a day (abortion)...a choice that stops a child's beating heart and injures the parents. Let's insist on using our taxpayer dollars for ultrasounds instead (healthcare bill), so mothers can see that they are carrying a child, not a choice. Rich Reich shared research that concluded "90% of women considering abortion choose to have their baby after seeing an ultrasound image." 40 Days for Life (until 1 Nov). Prayer to end abortion.

Sr. Francelle's devotion: "I am the Vine; you are the Branches."

Faith Challenges: Let's all invite one person each week (John 14:6) to join our LIFE Group (~ 250 of God's children).
* NEW: As highlighted in today's snippets, may we bear witness to His glory by "returning what was lost" (apology, thankfulness, etc).

* Let's never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images)...#1 cause of death in America. Let's courageously share ProLife Truth to create social tension for exposing abortion's unjust peace...rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16) and setting the unborn free!

Our Prayers: Those who pray together stay together. Fasting ideas in footnote below.
* Prayer to end abortion, abused children, chastity, peace, our enemies, our troops, depression/despair, prisoners, ProLife politicians, illnesses/injuries, jobs, natural disasters, refugees, addictions, persecuted believers, Peters family (JP in hospital), Lynn Bishara (for son Alex), Joe Hourigan (for brother Mike)

Faith Quotes:
* "Star-shaper, river-bender, snow-sifter, Jesus-maker, I love you. I trust you. I give you all my worries." from Living Faith for Kids 28 Oct
* "I pray you are happy and healthy. And if your not, I hope you're suffering joyfully." Joe Hourigan
* "The things professional athletes are able to do on the field of play are really nothing compared to the mighty deeds God is doing in our world today—in and through those of us who choose to follow Jesus and join him in his mission of reconciling all of creation back to God." Steve Knight

Luke 7:38 (receive God's love and mercy)

Let's welcome God this morning by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which is based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

She stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and annointed them with the ointment. Luke 7:38 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Without the physical evidence [the cross], she experienced Jesus' love and mercy, and her life was changed. Every stain of sin, all guilt and shame, all fear and sense of unworthiness, were wiped away, and she was filled with love and gratitude." by Leo Zanchettin

Rich's comments: The great love that the woman showed towards Jesus was a sign that her sins had been forgiven by Him. Our sins imprison us and keep us from showing love towards others. We need to first open our hearts to receive God's love and mercy before we can share this love and mercy with others. You cannot give what you have not received. Lord, allow our hearts to be open to receive the fullness of Your love and mercy so that we may share them with others. Amen.

Faith Challenge: Let's all invite one person each week (John 14:6) to join our LIFE Group (>220 ProLife Christians).
* NEW: Are you receiving the fullness of God's love and mercy? Have faith and confess your sins today. Allow yourself to be a conduit of God's love and mercy for others.

* NEW: Pat Castle (special intention for my cousin Michael, thanksgiving for Kara Livingston pregnancy)

Luke 6:36 (mercy)

Let's welcome God this morning by reflecting on this short Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which is based on Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "When I was growing up, there was tremendous emphasis in spiritual training on "be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect," the parallel passage to this verse in Luke (Matthew 5:48). Then I heard a Scripture scholar say that he was convinced that a better capturing of what Jesus actually said was to be found in Luke's account of that same sermon. I saw that it was precisely because I had not been perfect myself, because I had needed and received mercy from others, that I had begun to learn to be merciful." by Patricia Livingston

Rich's comments: Most people would agree that we are far from perfect. We have all heard the saying, "to err is human, to forgive divine." By forgiving others, we are emanating our Father in heaven. We all need the healing ministry of Jesus in our own life, and we are called to extend that healing ministry to others. Forgiveness is a fundamental element of Christianity. Thank you Lord for being a God of forgiveness and mercy. May Your mercy teach me to be merciful. Amen.

Faith Challenge: Let's all invite one person each week (John 14:6) to join our LIFE Group (>220 ProLife Christians).

* NEW: Show mercy today. Be patient. Be understanding. Be forgiving. Be loving.

If you knew what this meant, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice," you would not have condemned these innocent men. Matthew 12:7 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Everything that Jesus says and does, his very presence and his coming upon earth, is Mercy. Jesus is the mercy of God making us beloved children, beloved brothers and sisters, beloved communities that imitate the mercy and love within the Trinity, who are Three yet One. And we who are many are one in the Body of Christ through mercy. And it is to this that we are to be witnesses in the world. This is what the power of God gives us to spread and announce and exemplify with our lives. Mercy is the kingdom of heaven on earth. Mercy is what Jesus brings us as good news. Mercy is Jesus' touch on every person's body. Mercy is stretched out to us in Jesus." by Megan McKenna (Matthew: The Book of Mercy)

John 3:7-8 (Divine Mercy!)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Do not be amazed that I told you, "You must be born from above." The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound that it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. John 3:7-8

Living Faith snippets: "God's activity can never be anything but good and does not need to be reformed or controlled. It began at the creation of the world and up to now has continued with the same energy, which knows no limits. Its fertility is inexhaustible." by Jean-Pierre de Caussade (Abandonment to Divine Providence)

Pat nuggets: The devotion did not go out on Friday because I scrambled to move my Boston Marathon flight up to get out of C. Springs before the snowstorm. The race is 10 AM EST, Mon, 20 Apr...God apparently needed me to leave a day early based on the following experiences.
* On my flight, I had the opportunity to share our faith with a pro-choice Boston runner. I explained how I use running to get closer to God, pray for others, and defend the unborn. She was particularly surprised about the ProLife ministry because a Planned Parenthood volunteer sat next to her on her previous flight that same day. Coincidence?, I think not! After sharing some God Sightings with her and the motives for our ProLife ministry, I think she got a glimpse of the Divine Mercy, and she opened up about her own pains...her Mom was a drug addict and married six times...her oldest sister left home at 16, she left home at 14, and her little sister was supposed to be aborted (free clinic would not do a third abortion for her Mom). She told me that her upbringing was a lot like the book The Glass Castle. I suggested that she offer up some miles of the marathon for her family and told her that I would offer up a mile for her. Please pray for her and her family...
* On Saturday morning, I met another runner in the lobby of the Hanscom AFB lodging office. We carpooled into Boston to get our race packets, so we had several hours to visit. On Sunday morning, he hesitantly accepted my invitation for him to join me for Mass. He had not been to church in 10 years. After Mass he said, "it is amazing how much of that church service pertained to my life." Our lodging rooms were directly across from one another. Coincidence?, I think not!

Faith Challenge: Let's challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News.
* NEW: Learn about Sr. Faustina and Divine Mercy Sunday (Sunday after Easter) through Sr. Francelle's devotion, Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus appeared to Sr. Faustina to give her the Divine Mercy message and asked her to have someone paint a picture of his image (attached) with these words inscribed below the picture, JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU! One of the songs at my Divine Mercy Sunday Mass was Here I am. With the recent devotions on images of Christ and recognizing Him, this part of the song stood out..."Here I am, standing right beside you...I am here in the face of every child. I am here in every warm embrace. I am here with tenderness and mercy."

* Let's never forget the horrific reality of abortion (images)...#1 cause of death in America. Let's courageously share ProLife Truth (John 14:6) to create social tension for exposing abortion's unjust peace...rebuilding a Culture of Life (Matt 5:16) and setting the unborn free!

Our Prayers: Those who pray together stay together. Fasting ideas below.
* Prayer to end abortion, abused children, chastity, peace, our enemies, our troops, depression/ despair, prisoners, ProLife politicians, illnesses/injuries, jobs, natural disasters, addictions

Faith Quote: "…show mercy…do it cheerfully." Romans 12:8 (shared by Sue Peters)

Through Christ our Lord,
Pat
Phil 4:13

* Prayer: Prayer connects us with God's will & His miracles, changing us & helping others. 'If you pray that God will move a mountain and He doesn’t, assume Christ wants you to climb it instead.'
* Fasting: Let's fast from things that take our eyes off Jesus (selfishness, bitterness, being so critical, impatience, gossip, excessive video games, etc) and take on things that fix our eyes on Jesus (selflessness, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, patience, understanding, caring, helping, listening).
* Defend the unborn: 'Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die' (Prov 24:11). 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you' (Jer 1:5). 'It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might live as you wish' (Blessed Mother Teresa).
* Evangelization: Let's make room for unbelievers (be a friend, make a friend, lead friend to Christ) and perpetual re-evangelization of self and those near us, by way of daily prayer (relationship) and following Christ's example of selfless love, mercy, and service.
Let's joyfully invite others to join our LIFE Group...Rich or Pat will gladly add them to the devotions distribution list (Mark 16:15)!

Genesis 37:20 (sweet dreams)

Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith. All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

We shall then see what comes of his dreams. Genesis 37:20 (full readings)

Living Faith snippets: "Despite being betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a cistern, sold into slavery and falsely accused of rape, [Joseph] never resorts to revenge. Enemies become friends. He overcomes every obstacle without a hint of vengeance. He seeks no retribution. Joseph triumphs because he relies completely on God's love and mercy." by Paul Pennick

Sr. Francelle's devotion: Works of Mercy.

Faith Challenge: Let's challenge each other to joyfully live out the Good News. Suggestions?

Certainly not. But this is exactly how a rank secularist is obliged to view his daughter." by Meg Meeker, M.D. (author of "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters")

Luke 10:36-37 (act mercifully)

* Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

[Jesus asked,] "Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?" He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." Luke 10:36-37

Living Faith snippets: "The Lord Jesus calls me to be a "neighbor." How can I do this? By treating others with mercy, that's how. And your spiritual discipline for today is to think about practical, everyday ways you can relate to others with mercy, especially when you're inclined to act otherwise." by Mitch Finley

Pat nuggets:
* Joe and Jim Hourigan, Robert Cox, and me joined Stephanie Kemp and a few other Christians in front of Planned Parenthood from 4 to 6 AM, Sat, 4 Oct. We prayed together and discussed what we could do to help overturn Roe vs Wade, which legalized abortion in 1973 (child murder). While prayerfully walking the sidewalk in the dark, I noted how the motion detecting lights turned on each time we passed Planned Parenthood...our presence (the Body of Christ) was shining the light of Truth on the covert child murder that takes place inside. Just "Parenthood" was lit up on the building...the deception of evil. If you have participated in 40 Days for Life, please share your experience. Please try to do at least one hour of prayer in front of your local abortion mill before 2 Nov. Today's picture is of Kerry Tragesser's son outside Planned Parenthood...his shirt states, "I survived Roe vs Wade."

* VirtueMedia builds one minute ProLife commercials. One ad has Mrs. Roe (from Roe vs Wade) speak about her regret in being part of legalizing abortion. She said, "Truth be told, I have three children and have never had an abortion." Another ad talks about adoption, "There are unwanted pregnancies, but no unwanted babies." To view the ads (grey bottom right button) and donate, go to http://www.virtuemedia.org/.
* Mike Castle shared this article http://www.onenewsnow.com/Election2008/Default.aspx?id=273858. Some snippets: "[Bradley O'Leary,] A best-selling author and former political consultant has created a test that is designed to help people decide if they really should vote for Barack Obama in the upcoming election. His latest work is called The Audacity of Deceit: Barack Obama's War on American Values. "I basically wrote this book for my six daughters and six of my grandchildren who can vote because a couple of them had told me they were going to vote for Barack Obama," O'Leary says. "When I asked them why, they said because he was good looking, his rhetoric was wonderful, [and] they liked listening to him." In response, he put together a test for voters to compare their views on the issues with those of Obama. BarackObamaTest.com."

Matthew 18:35 (forgiveness)

* Welcome God every morning before work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart. Matthew 18:35

Living Faith snippets: "There are situations so horrendous that it is impossible for us to forgive others and be merciful without the power of the Holy Spirit. It is Jesus in us who extends divine mercy to others. That mercy is to flow through our words and attitudes because of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. To withhold this mercy from our fellow sinners is to deny discipleship." by Bishop Robert Morneau

Rich's comments: You might have heard the saying before that "holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die." Forgiveness is not only about showing mercy to the one who wronged you, but it is also a critical part of our own healing process. When I find it difficult to forgive someone, I remember the saying "to err is human, to forgive divine." This means to me that it is impossible for me to forgive without the power of the Holy Spirit, and that I need to pray for God's help. Lord, give me the strength to let go of the pain that I am holding on to so that I may forgive through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
