“I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.” John 12:46 (full readings)
Diane's Reflections: So often we use the symbol of light. At our Baptisms we receive the Light from the Pascal candle. We even sing with our young about being the Light of the World. We know that God lives in us, but do I really believe that God sends me to bring Light where there is darkness. A few years back in one of our terrific midwest storms, I lost power for several days. Do I remember how really dark it was in my neighborhood when no house had light, no street lamp? Yet, one small candle or one flashlight was a comfort. God is present in those dark times of our lives. Yet, God has given that Light to me to bring to others. A smile, a hug, or ten minutes spent listening is a Light to someone. The Light of forgiveness has tremendous power. I mourn for those children aborted, but I must try to be the Light to those who have made that choice. A few years ago, a young mother talked with our 8th graders about her abortion. She told of how she mourns that choice everyday and fears the day when she must tell her other children that she aborted a sibling. Part of her healing involves telling others about the darkness she chose. We have many daily opportunities to be Light for others. May you be blessed, and may you embrace the wonderful love of Christ in yourself that will give Light to others. Lord, help me to shine brightly today.
