Jn 17:20 (Live in Dignity) by Shane Kapler

Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB).

"I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching will come to believe in Me." Jn 17:20 (full readings)

Shane's Reflections: Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer – the knowledge that our Lord, as a Man, prayed for us is incredible to say the least. Do you want to hear a truth even more amazing though? Jesus prays in us, through us. Look at the final verse of today’s Gospel, “I have made Your Name known to them. . .so that the love with which you loved Me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.” The love with which the Father loves the Son is the Holy Spirit. Jesus dwells in us, and through the Holy Spirit, continues to love and give Himself to the Father, to pray to the Father, through us. We find this truth throughout the writings of St. Paul: “All who are led by the Spirit are sons of God,” and through the Spirit we, along with Jesus, “cry out ‘Abba!’” (Rm 8:14-15). From the first instant of our baptisms as infants, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God” (Rm 8:26-27). Because we form one Body with Christ, the “one mediator between God and man” (2 Tim 2:5), Paul could write, “First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for all men, especially for kings and those in authority, that we may be able to lead undisturbed and tranquil lives in perfect piety and dignity” (2 Tim 2:1-2).
