Psalm 88:15‏ (a prayer in darkness)

* Welcome God every morning before your work by taking ~5 min to read this Living In Faith Exchange (LIFE) Group devotion (life-devotions.blogspot.com), which has snippets from Living Faith (livingfaith.com). All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3:17

Why, O Lord, do you reject me; why hide from me your face? Psalm 88:15

Living Faith snippets: 'Psalm 88 is a prayer appropriate for a person in intractable pain, for one who is depressed, for a parent whose child is making a mess of her own life, for one unjustly imprisoned [for one considering an abortion or healing from an abortion]. By an act of infinite love, Jesus made His suffering the means to batter down the power of death. By death, He entered His Kingdom. If we let Him, He will make our suffering a path into the Kingdom- for ourselves, and for others.' by Kevin Perrrotta (author of "Six Weeks with the Bible")

Pat nuggets:
* I got today's image at the C. Springs balloon festival. WWJD is written on the balloon. When we look up to our heavenly father for guidance, this is often His answer to us...What Would Jesus Do?

* Chad Livingston shared this verse: 'Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.' 1 Corinthians 15:18 [With so much riding on this election (Supreme Court justices, Roe vs Wade), now is our time to take a stand for ProLife!]

* Nationwide Life Chain (Sun, 5 Oct): Stephanie Kemp shared...'2008 is the 21st year, with over 1400 cities participating. Please join in the long ecumenical chain of prayer for one hour (2-3 PM) on Academy Blvd (Austin Bluffs to the Chapel Hills Mall). Life Chain signs can be picked up at 1 PM at Old Chicago Pizza at Austin Bluffs and Academy.'

40 Days for Life campaign (24 Sep to 2 Nov): Campaigns in 179 cities in 47 states (24/7 for 40 days). Please sign up to pray an hour in front your local abortion mill. Update snippets from the director David Bereit http://www.40daysforlife.com/:

* "Virginia [from Las Vegas] notes that in dealing with women just leaving the clinic following an abortion -- as well as those supporting them and clinic employees as well, "It is critical to feel love for them and operate from the premise that 'they know not what they do.'"

* Dave Bereit and a popular secular talk show host in Bakersfield CA, Jaz McKay, talked on the air about the hurt that women and men can carry with them from abortion. Dave shared, "[Jaz McKay talked about] "how he had participated in two abortions [paid the bill] and said, "I hope God can forgive me." I assured him that indeed God could forgive him. Jaz continued talking on air about the pain and regret that haunts people. I am certain that Jay's heartfelt confession impacted many thousands of listeners. It's powerful. It's heart-wrenching. And if you have a mere five minutes, it's worth a listen: http://40days.glorifyjesus.com/daily/?p=91 As Jaz said, "We've got to stop this madness.""

* Why? Jerry Klazura shared this snippet from Randall Terry, A Humble Plea: To Bishops, Clergy and Laymen (pp 47-48): 'Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: 'Why direct action? Why sit-ins, marches and so forth? Isn’t negotiation a better path?’...Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored.' Civil tension and unrest force the authorities to face a controversial issue. This is part of the very core of the American process of self-government. The protests surrounding The Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party, the Abolitionist Movement, the Underground Railroad, the Women’s Voting Rights Movement, the Labor Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, the Anti-Vietnam War Movement, and many others testify to the central role that civil unrest plays before political change is reached…And what preceded the changing of the laws? Tension. Massive social tension. The Civil Rights Leaders and activists – led by the clergy – deliberately created a crisis. Like the early Apostles, they became disturbers of an unjust peace.'

Our Prayers: Abortion's end, chastity, our enemies, our troops, natural disasters, depression/ despair, dementia, cancer cure, prisoners, leaders integrity, loss of loved ones, lack of faith, Rob Ouellette (St. Patrick parish special intentions), Scott Casmer (special intention)
* NEW: Ann Schaefbauer (for the family of 8 yr old Mullen John Widdowson who died of cancer on 29 Sep, his parents wrote 'always thanking God for our miracle of Mullen!')

Feast Day (St. Therese of Lisieux): 'Thérèse’s “Little Way” means taking God at his word and letting his love for us wash away our sins and imperfections. We can’t all hug lepers or go off and become missionaries and martyrs. But we all do have daily opportunities of grace. If we can’t advance to Heaven in giant strides, we can do it in tiny little steps [like an hour of prayer in front of our local abortion mill]. Our weakness is no excuse for mediocrity.' http://www.universalis.com/20081001/today.htm

Faith Quote: Steve Castle shared this quote. "Beware of an over-concern for money, or position, or glory. Someday you will meet a man who cares for none of these. Then you will know how poor you are.” – Rudyard Kipling

Phil 4:13

* Prayer: Prayer connects us with God's will & His miracles, thereby changing us & helping others. Wayne Watson lyrics, “When God's people pray, there is hope reborn, there is sin forgiven, and miracles you can't explain await!” 'If you pray that God will move a mountain and He doesn’t, assume Christ wants you to climb it instead & see Him.'
* Defend the unborn: 'Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die' (Prov 24:11). 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you' (Jer 1:5). 'It is a great poverty that a child must die that you might lie as you wish' Blessed Mother Teresa. Prayer to End Abortion.
* Evangelization: Let's make room for non-believers (be a friend, make a friend, lead friend to Christ) and perpetual re-evangelization of self and those near us, by way of daily prayer (relationship) and following Christ's example of selfless love, mercy, and service.
Let's joyfully live out the Good News and gladly tell others about it (Mark 16:15)!
