Rich's Reflections: In today's Gospel, Jesus appears upset after the father of a demon-possessed boy pleads with Him, "But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us." Jesus responds, "If you can! Everything is possible to one who has faith." Christ's displeasure in the absence of faith may be more attributable to the disciples' failure to effect a cure than with the possessed boy's father. In response, Jesus reveals the disciples' lack of faith in God (Mark 9:19) and their lack of prayer (Mark 9:29). As disciples of Christ, we have the responsibility to be examples of faith and prayer to others. In being witnesses to the power of faith and prayer, we lead others to Christ. Lord, I do believe; help my unbelief. Amen.
