Joshua 3:9-10 (Listen to God) by Kevin Grillot

“Come here and listen to the words of the LORD, your God. This is how you will know that there is a living God in your midst” ~ Joshua 3:9-10 (full readings)

Kevin's Reflections: In the first reading, God told Joshua to lead the Israelites across the Jordan. God showed Joshua that if he led the people with the ark of the covenant then they will find protection on their journey. The ark is the greatest symbol of God’s presence with the Israelites and how God’s Word will accompany them, even through the desolate times. Joshua did not know how he was going to be called, but he listened and trusted in what he heard from God. This is an example of a person humbly listening to God and by leading with God’s symbol of love, he is magnificently able to meet the needs of the community, in this case crossing the high waters of the Jordan. We must strive to trust more deeply in listening to how God is calling us. By leading first with the love of God, “the whole nation completed the passage” (Jos 3:17). Lord, grant us the ears to hear and faith to trust in the way you call us to serve the needs of the pro-life movement. By leading first with Your love, may we faithfully build the culture of life, so our whole nation may complete the passage to you, Lord.
